Getting ready for reading and writing

MOVE THOSE BODIES!
Getting ready to form letters means understanding words such as up, down, curve, around and straight. So we picked up our flipper flappers and got our bodies moving in different ways!

Controlling scissors needs hand eye coordination just like writing does, so we have been working our fingers hard this week.

LOVING MARK MAKING

Some of us have been practising forming letters in our names. Super concentration and control from them all!

PRINT ALL AROUND US
We have been looking closely at labels and logos, and have been spotting matching words around our room. We also spotted letters that some of our names begin with.

BOOK TIME!
We are very excited at having our very own Book Time library of books we can choose, and take home to share with our families. Children are recalling parts of stories and talking about which part they liked.

A lovely week of building early reading and writing skills. Keep up the good learning, Little Conkers!

Jumping into a new year of learning

ACTIVE LITTLE CONKERS

The children have been keeping fit climbing, balancing, stretching and jumping this week!

We had a special visitor in the play area one day! The children were surprised to see a chicken happily scratching around for food. There were lots of questions about where she had come from, was she a girl or a boy, what did she like to eat, could she fly...
As friendly as she was, and eager to join the line at going in time, we did have to distract her so that she didn't also come indoors with us!!

BOOK TIME!
This week we were excited to introduce the opportunity for the children to choose books to take home to share with family and carers. The children have really enjoyed selecting and talking about their books, and often a little group has gathered to listen in too! Already parents' feedback is very positive and older brothers and sisters are getting involved in reading the books to their younger siblings.

We have been focusing on print around us to encourage the children to understand print has meaning. It has been pleasing to see the children's interest develop over the week and they have been great at spotting letters the same, as well as naming logos.
